Oxygen XML Web
Author version 18.0.1 is the latest release for the innovative Oxygen web-based
authoring tool. Its powerful technology and adaptive interface allows you to review,
contribute, and edit content from anywhere, on desktops, tablets, or mobile devices. It
includes a variety of new features and improvements to make your authoring, collaborating,
and reviewing experience more efficient and productive than ever before.
The expanded support for Git integrations gives you the ability to work with any type of
Git repository manager (including GitHub, BitBucket, and
GitLab).
You can benefit now of automatic spell checking, video playing support inside DITA
documents, and auto-save when you edit files from WebDAV repositories.
Several new actions were added to make your editing experience even easier and more
dynamic. They include toolbar actions for inserting web links, file references, special
characters and contextual menu actions to copy and cut content as well as a DITA specific
contextual actions to open the DITA Style Guide.
This version also includes various other improvements, such as an automatic conversion
of URLs to framework-specific linking elements, support for a URL Chooser
form control for selecting local and remote resources, the ability to upload files or
images, and enhancements to the Content Completion
Assistant.

Support for Using any Git Repository
When using the Git plugin in Oxygen XML Web Author, you now have the
ability to work with any Git repository. Prior to this release, the Git support
was limited to GitHub. Now you can use other Git repository managers,
such as BitBucket or GitLab.
Insert Special Characters
A new action was added to the toolbar allowing you to select from a large
variety of special characters to insert at the caret position. The various types of
characters include symbols, emoticons, punctuation, and many more.
Spell Checking
Oxygen XML Web Author now automatically checks for spelling errors when a
document is loaded and every time a modification is made in the document. If you
right-click on a misspelled word, you are presented with a list of suggestions that you
can select from and an Ignore All option that instructs the application to
ignore all occurrences of that word in the current document. The spell checking engine can
be configured to use custom dictionaries.
Copy/Cut Actions Now Offered in Contextual Menu
Copy and cut actions now work directly from the contextual menu, thus
simplifying the way to copy content to the clipboard. Prior to this release, invoking
these editing actions from the contextual menu opened a dialog box that required an
additional step to copy content to the clipboard.
Automatically Insert Framework-Specific Linking Elements
When you paste a valid http or https URL string,
Oxygen XML Web Author automatically inserts the appropriate linking element for the
particular type of document you are editing. For example, in DITA documents, the mechanism
will place the URL in an xref element.
New Actions for Inserting Web Links and File References
A new action allows you to insert web links in DITA, DocBook, and XHTML
documents. I DITA documents you can now also insert file references.
URL Chooser Form Control
The URL Chooser form control is now supported in Oxygen
XML Web Author. This form control provides a dialog box that allows you to select the
location of local or remote resources.
Play Videos in DITA Documents
You now have the ability to play videos directly from DITA documents. If a
video is present in a DITA document, you can simply press the play button and a
Preview window will appear where you can view the video or you can
choose to open it in a separate tab.
Browse DITA Style Guide Action
A new Browse DITA Style Guide action was added to the contextual
menu for DITA documents. This action opens the DITA Style Guide - Best Practices
for Authors in a preview window and displays a topic that is relevant to the
element at the cursor position. You can also choose to open the style guide in a separate
tab.
All Elements Displayed in Content Completion Assistant
The Content Completion Assistant now also shows elements that are
invalid at the current location, but they are rendered in a lighter shade of gray,
italicized, and appear after the valid proposals. This makes it easier to insert elements
without having to adjust the precise location of the cursor, as Oxygen will
automatically try to fix the invalid elements by finding their correct location in the
document.
Auto-Save for WebDAV
A new auto-save feature was added for documents opened from a
WebDAV server. The feature automatically saves your current document to the WebDAV server
after a modification is made to the document. The interval between the time a change is
made and when the auto-save feature is triggered can be
configured.
Support Added for Uploading Files and Images
When browsing for files, if the file is not already in your repository, you can
use the new Upload File action at the top-right corner of the dialog box to
upload the file to the repository before selecting it.
