00:00:08The purpose of this video is to demonstrate
how to generate various reports that
00:00:12show the results of a file or directory
comparison using tools within Oxygen.
00:00:19First I'll open the Compare Files tool ...
and I'll specify two files to compare.
00:00:32And you can see that it automatically did the
file comparison and shows the differences.
00:00:37Now, I'll go to the File menu and select "Save
Results as HTML", I'll specify a name and path,
00:00:48and I open the resulting report file,
00:00:51and it displays information about
all the detected differences.
00:00:59Now, I'll generate an HTML report using
the Compare Directories tool.
00:01:04I'll specify two directories to compare ...
now I'm going to toggle the "Show only
00:01:15modifications" toolbar button because when the
HTML report is generated, instead of displaying
00:01:21the full structure of the compared directories,
the report only displays the differences
00:01:27(the same as when the Show only
modifications button is toggled).
00:01:35There is also an action in the Tools menu
00:01:38called Generate HTML Report
for Directory Comparison.
00:01:42It can be used to generate an HTML report
for 2 or 3-way directory comparisons.
00:01:47I first need to specify the paths to the
base and the two directories to compare.
00:01:56You can choose to use the current
settings from Preferences ...
00:02:01and clicking the blue widget opens the
Directories Comparison preferences page.
00:02:09I'll choose to use the
default settings this time.
00:02:13There is also an option to generate
additional file comparison reports,
00:02:18and I'll click the information button.
And it explains that this option generates
00:02:23file comparison reports for all
non-binary modified file pairs
00:02:27with links to them in the main report.
00:02:31Then I need to specify the path
and name for the output file.
00:02:35And I'll leave the option selected to open the
results in the browser or system application ...
00:02:42and after I click Generate report, the main
report is automatically opened in my browser.
00:02:48You see that the results are displayed
similar to the reports you saw earlier.
00:02:54I can click on one of the diff
symbols in the middle columns to
00:02:57open the corresponding file comparison
reports for that particular file pair.
00:03:04Back in Oxygen, I'll select that action again,
00:03:11and this time I'll change some
options to refine the results.
00:03:15So, I'll choose "use the current
settings from Preferences" ...
00:03:21and I'll click the blue settings widget.
From the preference page, I'll click on the
00:03:23link for "Configure content comparison" ...
this opens the Files Comparison preferences
00:03:30page and I'm going to specify that it
ignores whitespaces and XML comments.
00:03:40I'll generate the report ...
and if I click the symbol for that same file pair,
00:03:48you see that the resulting
report is filtered and now only
00:03:513 differences are detected rather than 5.
As you can see, there are a lot of different
00:03:57options that you have available to refine the
HTML reports to suit your specific needs.
00:04:03This concludes the demonstration.
Thank you for watching.
